Wonderland was never made for a woman who needs every road to run straight or every answer to make sense. It belongs to the curious ones. The ones willing to follow a grin through the dark, pull up a chair at the wrong tea table and wear a little madness like it was made for them.

Of course, a table this mad needed a proper hatmaker. We saved a seat for Chris at FunkyBrims. He has made a name for himself creating some of the coolest caps around, earning his place as the Mad Hatter of the scally cap world. That made this the perfect theme for our second exclusive drop together. Only Hales and FunkyBrims will have it.

The Hatter can turn from brooding and mysterious to wild eyed and colorful without warning. We caught both moods in a gray, black and vibrant purple plaid. Gray and black keep it dark and polished. Vibrant purple refuses to behave.

From across the room, the plaid is classy and mysterious. Get closer and the purple starts spinning.

Every pearl snap twists together two shades of purple, running down the front and finishing both cuffs like tiny pieces of warped jewelry. They are polished enough to look expensive and strange enough to belong in Wonderland. Even our traditional HALES pocket label dressed for the occasion, swapping its usual font for a new collection coordinating look.

Inside, the rabbit hole goes deeper.

That same warped spiral pulls a clock, mushrooms and the Hatter’s iconic top hat across the inner woven label. For the Hatter, Time is stuck at six. The mushrooms cannot decide how tall anything should be. The deeper you look, the less sense it makes. Exactly as it should.

Tucked into the hatband is the unmistakable 10/6 card. In the original illustration, it was the price of the Hatter’s hat in old British currency, meaning ten shillings and sixpence. One tiny detail with more than 160 years of Wonderland history behind it.

The madness may run loose, but the fit is anything but accidental. Our signature women’s shape began with a full day spent measuring and refining the fit with a local tailor who brought more than 40 years of experience and her granddaughters. The result has defined every Hales women’s flannel since. Bust darts create room where it matters, while an additional 1.5 inches of length in the back adds coverage without losing the shape. Button it up for a polished dark look or wear it open when you want the purple to do the talking.
