This year for Halloween, we decided to go old school. We went classic horror. We went wretched. Now the creature is prowling the boulevard with a score to settle.

It all goes back to 1818, when Mary Shelley gave the world Frankenstein. Victor never gave his creation a proper name. Instead, he called him a devil, a vile insect, an abhorred monster and a fiend. But one stuck with us: The Wretch.

More than two centuries later, we dug him up and rebuilt him as an inked-up ’50s greaser with a wicked ’55 Chevy. Then one late-night question refused to die: What if American Graffiti had been overrun by Universal Monsters with a grindhouse horror director calling the shots?

We pulled the pale, muted, rotting flesh greens straight from colorized posters for Universal’s 1931 Frankenstein, then buried them in black and charcoal to create the custom plaid used across our men’s, women’s and youth flannels. The worst of the monster hides on the custom woven label inside the back yoke, but a few details escaped to the outside: pearl black snaps, green lightning bolts on the cuffs and a pocket label with our usual HALES font replaced by dripping green lettering.

The Wretch looked over the flannel and gave us one low grunt of approval. Coming from him, that meant we’d nailed it. Then he started demanding more. So one stormy night, we fired up the machines in the lab. By morning, we had a coordinating hat, graphic tee, zip hoodie and garage banner too.

Different pieces. Same rotten story.

⚠️ LIMITED EDITION • NO RESTOCKS. When the smoke clears from the lab and The Wretch vanishes into the stormy night, that’s it. He’s not coming back!

WELCOME TO THE NIGHT THE MONSTERS TOOK OVER THE BOULEVARD.
