Our latest collection pays tribute to this tradition and draws inspiration from the blue Harley-Davidson Road King known as "La Basilica."

If you've ever seen a Vicla rolling down the block, then you know it stops traffic. But beneath all that chrome and candy paint lies a deep, heavy history that most people miss.

That history is what directly inspired the latest La Basilica Collection from Hales.

"Vicla" is pure street slang 

The word "vicla" is a Chicano slang adaptation of "bicycle". Over the decades, the word has come to be known for an ultra-premium, custom lowrider motorcycle.

Known for the Candy Paint Layers 

We can't really talk about a bike like "La Basilica" without talking about the paint. True Chicano custom paint utilizes candy layers, lace patterns, and pinstriping that fade from dark shadows to light.

When we designed our flannel collection, we wanted to match this visual depth. Instead of using standard, block plaid, we used a highly blended shadow plaid. This deep blue and indigo blend together seamlessly, matching the candy paint transitions laid down by Carlitos Kandy Lab. 

"Ape Hangers" Bring Attitude 

Those towering handlebars aren't just for show. Riding a Vicla with massive ape hangers is a visual declaration of pride and presence. It forces the rider to go upright into a high-profile stance and commands the lane.

That's the exact fit we patterned our heavy-duty flannels with, to wear with pride and demand the attention of the road.

Custom Hardware is the New "Chrome Engraving" 

In Vicla culture, chrome is the canvas. Caballeros Engraving worked on the "La Basilica" motorcycles, spending countless hours carving scrolling patterns into the metal.

To honor that level of custom metalwork, Hales upgraded the actual architecture of the "La Basilica" Flannels. This collection marks the debut of our first-ever custom open-center-ring snaps and heavy-duty custom-woven labels. It's custom apparel built to match the chrome machine. 

Direct Twin of Lowrider Car History 

Vicla culture is a direct two-wheeled extension of lowrider cars. When Mexican-American veterans returned home with advanced mechanical skills, they bypassed the mainstream hot rod trend and engineered a low and slow philosophy. By the '60s and '70s, the same lifestyle migrated onto Harley-Davidson frames.

Slammed Look Relies on Air-Ride Secrets 

True dual-exhaust Viclas run advanced, pneumatic air suspension. Riders can lift the bike to cruising height while riding and then "slam" it directly on the frame with the push of a button, the second they park at bike night. 

Fishtail Exhaust with Direct Chopper Roots 

The long dual exhaust pipes stretch way past the rear fender and are known as "fishtails". This look was originally borrowed from the early 50s custom choppers, but Chicano builders perfected the style by running true dual lines symmetrical on both sides of the bike. 

Headlight Blanket Has a Purpose 

If you look closely, you'll see a tightly rolled Mexican sarape blanket strapped right above the headlight. This adds an iconic pop of heritage to the front end, and it adds an extra layer for cold night rides.

Why a Garage is Named After a Cathedral 

A basilica is a sanctuary built to inspire reverence and awe. The garage isn't just a place to turn wrenches; it's a sanctuary, a road church to most of us. Our custom artwork mirrors that sentiment with the stained-glass mural, deep scrolls, and beautiful Virgin Mary watching over the front of the Vicla. It's a symbol of faith, respect, and protection while out on that blacktop.

Our La Basilica collection uses blended shadow plaid and the first-ever custom open-center ring snaps; every piece was designed with the same philosophy that made the motorcycle unforgettable.
