Built from our signature 97% polyester / 3% spandex blend, The Wretch is soft enough for all-day comfort, durable enough for everything kids get into and has just enough stretch to move with them. The wrinkle-resistant treatment and easy care mean they can grab it from the clean laundry basket, throw it on, snap it up and be ready for school in no time.

Like every Hales youth flannel we’ve made from the beginning, The Wretch carries the same full construction and custom details as the adult versions. Nothing was removed, swapped or watered down just because it was built for kids.

Mary Shelley never gave Frankenstein’s creature a name, but Victor gave him plenty. Creature. Fiend. Demon. Wretch. We grabbed the one that fit and built this black and green plaid youth flannel shirt around it. Instead of the bright neon green that became the modern shorthand for the monster, we pulled the muted, sickly greens straight from colorized posters for Universal’s 1931 Frankenstein, then buried them in black and charcoal.

Inside the back yoke, our inked-up greaser Wretch stares back through dead eyes. Metal clamps bite into the top of his skull, thick staples hold his head in place, bolts protrude from each side of his neck and Mary Shelley is inked across his chest. A few of those wretched details broke free and escaped to the outside with pearl black snaps, green lightning bolts charging each wrist and dripping green HALES lettering on the pocket label.

We wanted a kids’ Halloween flannel that wouldn’t disappear into a storage tote on November 1. Throw on a Frankenstein mask and their costume is handled. Lose the mask and they still have one badass green flannel for looking sharp at school, matching the family for photos at the pumpkin patch or popping wheelies on their BMX bike. It’s built for repeat wear now and ready to hand down to the next little monster when the time comes.
