Why Are Red Flannels So Damn Controversial?

Why Are Red Flannels So Damn Controversial?
Why Are Red Flannels So Damn Controversial?

Say the words red flannel around here and you're guaranteed to get a reaction.

Some Haleions can't get enough of them. The second we drop a red flannel, you're already thinking about what to wear it with and how damn good it'll look while catching the breeze on the back of your bike.

Others?

You'd be perfectly happy if we never made another red flannel again.

We've seen it over and over again in the Hales Legendary Flannel Facebook Group. Drop a red flannel or even give a sneak peek, and everybody suddenly has an opinion...and I don't even know if we asked for it.

So, what the hell is it about red flannels?

Red Flannel Has Literally Been Around Forever

When most people picture a classic flannel shirt, there is a good chance they're picturing some version of red and black plaid.

Red flannel has been associated with workwear, the outdoors, choppers, hot rods, grunge, and just about every aspect of American counterculture at some time or another.

It's bold. Plus, unlike a neutral flannel that can quickly become part of an outfit, red stands out. It doesn't keep its mouth shut.

Maybe that's the problem.

Or maybe that's exactly why so many of us love it.

Two Types of Haleions

Haleions that love red flannel.

Haleions that hate red flannel.

Every time red enters the conversation, some of you are ready for another while others believe we have hit our lifetime quota.

And you know what?

We kinda love it.

Because nobody argues about something they don't give a damn about.

So Why Does Red Keep Coming Back?

Red flannel never really disappears because something about it just works.

Put it next to denim, black, leather, boots, and a beat-up old truck, chopper, or hot rod, and it just looks like it belongs there.

Hales has never been interested in making clothes that help you disappear in the crowd. We make clothes to stand out, to make a statement, to tell a story. We want you to wear the hell out of Hales Legendary Flannels.

And red makes it easy to do.

Not All Reds Are Created Equal

Did you know that red isn't just red?

There is fire-engine red. Burgundy. Crimson. Rust. Red and Black. Red with Gray, Red with Orange, and on and on.

Change the pattern, weight, accent colors, or shade, and suddenly your red flannel looks entirely different than the red flannel already hanging in your closet.

The challenge is taking something as familiar as a red flannel and figuring out how to do it the Hales Way.

Maybe That's What Makes Red So Damn Good

There are plenty of colors nobody feels strongly about and then...

there is red.

It gets people talking. You might love it. You might hate it. But we can be damn sure you're going to talk about it.

Let's settle this debate.

So, which team are you?

Team Red Flannel? Or Team Anything-But-Red?

We want to know which team you're on. What do you think makes for the perfect red flannel?

Be honest. We're ready.
